Spanish Class with Mrs. D'Amelio! This engaging Spanish time is designed to introduce preschoolers to the Spanish language while fostering cultural appreciation, movement, music, and fun! Our sessions begin with a cheerful greeting song in Spanish to help children get comfortable with common phrases like hola (hello) and ¿cómo estás? (how are you?). Our story times then feature colorful books, age-appropriate Spanish music, games and songs with interactive elements, encouraging children to repeat key vocabulary words and phrases. Holy Trinity Preschool students learn to be global citizens, and appreciate how fun it is to learn foreign language and culture.
Movement: Children will participate in simple, guided movements tied to the story, such as imitating animals, clapping to rhythms, or acting out scenes. This helps them connect words to actions and stay actively engaged. Music: Throughout the session, children will sing classic Spanish songs like Los Pollitos Dicen or La Vaca Lola, which incorporate repetitive lyrics for easy language absorption. Instruments such as maracas or tambourines may also be used to add rhythm and excitement. Cultural Appreciation: The session includes brief, fun introductions to cultural elements, such as a traditional game, a dance move like a simple zapateado (stomping), or exploring items like piñatas or traditional clothing. These activities help children appreciate the richness of Spanish-speaking cultures. Language Development: Each story time focuses on a specific theme, like animals (animales), colors (colores), or numbers (números), providing children with vocabulary they can use in everyday life. Through repetition, visual aids, and hands-on activities, children build confidence in understanding and speaking simple Spanish words and phrases. The session concludes with a goodbye song in Spanish, leaving children excited for the next story time adventure! |
